Cats are naturally private, but persistent hiding, avoiding family members, skipping meals, or disappearing for hours at a time can signal chronic fear, stress, or anxiety. Common triggers include a new pet or person in the home, a move, loud noises, or ongoing tension with another cat.
Because pain and illness can also cause cats to withdraw, sudden or prolonged hiding should always prompt a veterinary check-up rather than being dismissed as "just how cats are."

Our behaviorists assess your cat's environment, routine, and relationships to uncover what's driving the withdrawal, then build a plan focused on safe spaces, gradual confidence-building, and enrichment to help your cat feel secure again. When anxiety is significant, we may also recommend supportive medication.
If your cat has become withdrawn or seems chronically stressed, we're here to help. Call (864) 991-8024 or schedule a consultation with Feeling Pawsitive Veterinary Behavioral Services.
