Increased yowling, especially at night, disorientation, and changes in sleep-wake patterns are common in senior cats and can be linked to feline cognitive dysfunction syndrome, similar to dementia in people. Pain, hyperthyroidism, high blood pressure, and sensory decline can also cause these changes.
Because so many treatable medical conditions can look identical to age-related cognitive decline, new or worsening nighttime vocalizing in an older cat should always be evaluated rather than accepted as a normal part of aging.

Our veterinary behaviorists perform a thorough senior work-up to identify and treat any underlying medical conditions, then create a plan combining environmental adjustments, routine changes, and medication or supplements to support cognitive health and improve sleep for your cat and your household.
If your senior cat has started vocalizing more or waking at night, let's find out why. Call (864) 991-8024 or schedule a consultation with Feeling Pawsitive Veterinary Behavioral Services.
